Emerging artist-producer Ella Conder returns with her bold second single, How Does It Feel?, released via Mahogany Songs. A haunting, electronically infused track that blends dark textures, emotional honesty, and striking sonic experimentation.
Crafted in a home studio and co-produced with long-time collaborator Ben Roberts, How Does It Feel? marks a confident evolution in Conder’s sound. Anchored by driving, shadowy drum grooves and layered with soft electronic atmospheres, the song finds its pulse in experimentation: from African drums and shakers to a gritty, hypnotic bass riff. Drawing inspiration from the moody, immersive worlds of Massive Attack and Gorillaz, Conder has created a track that feels both brooding and deeply intimate.
Lyrically, How Does It Feel? cuts straight to the emotional core. Conder reflects on the long-lasting impact of bullying, asking confronting questions of those who caused harm, to her and to others, while analysing the residue left behind by early, damaging “friendships”. The result is an arresting blend of vulnerability and strength, framed through the lens of someone reclaiming their emotional space.
“Working on this track with my best mate Ben was one of the most inspiring days we’ve had in the studio,” Conder shares. “We wanted to build a little sound world that felt dark and moody, but still held a softness that lets you sink into a more introspective place. We produced it in a completely different way than we normally do, using instruments we don’t usually reach for, and it gave the song a raw, new energy that really excited us. Lyrically, it’s really about those moments where I take on feelings from how people interact with me, and reminding myself I don’t have to carry the weight of their actions.”
With How Does It Feel?, Ella Conder solidifies her position as one of the most compelling new voices in electronic pop, unafraid to fuse vulnerability with experimentation, and pain with power.
The single already received support from BBC Introducing Sussex & Surrey ahead of release.
