Pink Mario, the enigmatic Berlin-based dream pop artist, is back with Elgin Cathedral, a melancholic winter classic set in the ruins of a faraway Scottish town.

Elgin Cathedral sees Pink Mario’s trademark nostalgic, choral vocals glide in on top of pulsing pads and hypnotic synths, where it occupies a space somewhere between the contemplative shoegaze of Beach House and the wintry poetry of Fleet Foxes. In many ways, the song embodies the will and intent behind Pink Mario’s work: to immerse the listener so deeply in a feeling that they lose all track of their surroundings.

“I always wanted to write a song set in the Scottish highlands, where my ancestors hail from. Elgin Cathedral is my homage to them, and an attempt to capture the mysteries of winter; as well as the peculiar feeling of loneliness. Props to anyone who hears the bagpipes!”
